Contractors across the country are growing their businesses by meeting the increasing demand for stronger, more resilient homes. Houses built or re-roofed to the FORTIFIED Home™ standard are ready to stand up to Mother Nature. Based on more than two decades of scientific research, FORTIFIED Home is a set of voluntary above-code construction standards that improve a building’s resistance to the effects of severe weather, meeting homeowner expectations for both value and performance.
Developed by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS), FORTIFIED Home has been tested in lab and field studies to withstand 130 mph winds, EF-2 tornadoes, wind-driven rain and 2-inch hail.
As a home is being built or re-roofed to the FORTIFIED standards, an independent third-party evaluator will verify the required upgrades are installed as prescribed. Once completed, IBHS will review the documentation and issue a FORTIFIED designation, which is generally required for insurance discounts and/or mitigation credits. This third-party verification underscores the extra protection a FORTIFIED provides and shows your customers their contractor is committed to quality and durability.
